Burt seals pre-season win at Mourneview

Glentoran continued their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Glenavon on Tuesday evening in their penultimate pre-season friendly.

Joe Thomson opened the scoring early on for the Glens, finishing from close range after a positive start by the visitors.

Glenavon responded shortly after with an equaliser from McDaid, who capitalised on a loose ball in the area to bring the hosts level.

Liam Burt restored Glentoran’s lead before the break with a superb lob from 25 yards that beat the Glenavon goalkeeper.

Glens sign goalkeeper Peter Urminsky on loan

Glentoran Football Club has confirmed the signing of Slovakian goalkeeper Peter Urminsky on a season-long loan from Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old arrives at the BetMcLean Oval with a strong reputation for his commanding presence, sharp reflexes and composure in possession, becoming the latest addition to Declan Devine’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 Sports Direct Premiership campaign.

New date confirmed for first Big Two Derby fixture

Glentoran can confirm that our first Big Two clash of the 2025/26 Sports Direct Premiership season against Linfield has been rescheduled and will now take place on Friday 12th September 2025 (Kick-off: 7.45pm) at the BetMcLean Oval.

The fixture has been selected for live broadcast by BBC Sport NI and will be shown on BBC Two NI and BBC iPlayer.

Ticketing information will be released in due course.

Glens held by Chester in entertaining encounter

Glentoran were held to a 1-1 draw by English National League North side Chester in Saturday’s pre-season fixture at The BetMcLean Oval.

The match followed a vibrant Glentoran Community Carnival, with music, games, and family-friendly entertainment creating a lively buzz in the build-up to kick-off.

Played in front of a strong crowd on a sun-soaked afternoon, the visitors took the lead on 17 minutes through Offrande Zanzala. The forward met a lofted cross with a powerful volley that left Glens goalkeeper Andrew Mills with no chance.

Glentoran Women suffer first league defeat

Glentoran Women fell to their first defeat of the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership season on Friday night, as Cliftonville edged a hard-fought encounter 2-0 at the Blanchflower Stadium.

In a close game between two sides expected to be in the title mix once again, it was the Reds who found the breakthrough early in the second half and added a late second to take all three points.

Glentoran Women are delighted to announce the signing of talented young centre back Faye Loughran from Lisburn Rangers.

The 18-year-old Northern Ireland youth international joins the club after three and a half seasons in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership, where she was an ever-present figure in the Lisburn Rangers defence.

Originally from Dungannon, Loughran came through the ranks at Dungannon United Youth Boys before joining Lisburn Rangers in 2022. She has also represented Northern Ireland at both U17 and U19 level.

Glentoran Pays Tribute to Alistair ‘Aldo’ Burton

Glentoran Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Alistair Burton, known to many as Aldo.

A devoted Glens fan since childhood, Aldo began attending matches at the Oval with his father Tom and remained a passionate supporter throughout his life. He followed the team faithfully alongside close friend Paul Donnelly, with his nephew Adam recently joining them in travelling from Ballymena to East Belfast on matchdays.

Aldo was a proud and dedicated family man, particularly to his daughter Jessica, with whom he shared a close and loving bond.

Select XI impress against Ballymacash Rangers

A composed second-half performance saw a youthful Glentoran Select XI secure a 3–0 win over Ballymacash Rangers at the Bluebell Stadium on Monday evening, continuing the Glens’ positive pre-season momentum.

Following an even opening 45 minutes, it was Academy graduate Jude Johnson who broke the deadlock after the interval, rifling home a superb long-range effort to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Cal Weatherup doubled the advantage soon after with a confident finish into the bottom corner, having cut in smartly from the left flank to round off a swift counter-attack.
