Glentoran Football Club has confirmed the signing of Slovakian goalkeeper Peter Urminsky on a season-long loan from Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old arrives at the BetMcLean Oval with a strong reputation for his commanding presence, sharp reflexes and composure in possession, becoming the latest addition to Declan Devine’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 Sports Direct Premiership campaign.

Standing at 6ft 7in, Urminsky began his professional career with Spartak Trnava in his native Slovakia, where he also earned international recognition at Under-19 level.

He joined St Mirren in January 2020 and has since gained valuable experience during loan spells with Ayr United and Stenhousemuir, before making his senior debut for the Buddies in a 2-0 Premier Sports Cup victory over Cowdenbeath in July 2022.

Speaking about signing for Glentoran, Peter Urminsky said: “I’m delighted to join Glentoran on loan for the season. It’s a brilliant opportunity to fight for first-team football in a highly competitive league and to do it at one of the biggest clubs in the country.

“I had a great conversation with Conor McMenamin, who spoke so highly of the club, the people and the supporters. He told me that if you show desire and play for the badge, the fans will back you all the way and that if you help bring success to Glentoran, they’ll never forget it.

“From the moment I arrived, I’ve been really impressed by how professional the setup is, from the attention to detail in the analysis work and strength and conditioning to the tactical preparation and coaching led by Declan Devine and his coaching staff. Elliott Morris has already identified areas where I can improve and I love that challenge. I’m here to work hard, improve every day and give everything I have to help the team.”

Declan Devine, Glentoran First Team Manager, said: “Peter is a goalkeeper that St Mirren rate incredibly highly, and we’re delighted to have beaten off strong competition to bring him to Glentoran for the season.

“Goalkeeping was an area of the squad we wanted to strengthen, and Peter is agile, commanding and an excellent shot stopper who will provide real competition for Andrew Mills. We now have two top-class goalkeepers who will push each other every day in training and that can only help raise standards.

“Most importantly, he was eager to come to the Glens, work hard and play a key role in what we’re trying to build. He wants to test himself in this league and be part of a team that’s fully focused on delivering success.”

The arrival of Peter Urminsky is another significant addition to Glentoran’s summer recruitment, as manager Declan Devine continues to shape a squad capable of challenging for honours next season.

He joins a growing list of high-profile signings that includes Daniel Larmour, Liam Burt, Jordan Stewart, Pat Hoban and Ryan Cooney, while the club has also secured new contracts for key players including club captain Marcus Kane, Josh Kelly, Charlie Lindsay and Jordan Jenkins.

A number of exciting academy prospects have also committed their futures to the club, with Ciaran Rogers Duffy and Cal Weatherup signing their first professional contracts and Jude Johnson and Callum Farley agreeing contract extensions.

Paul Millar, Glentoran Sporting Director, added:  “This is an important signing for the club and a position we had clearly identified as one we needed to strengthen following the departure of Dániel Gyollai and Lorcan Donnelly heading out on loan to Ballinamallard United to gain valuable experience.

“We’re grateful to St Mirren for their support in making the move happen and for trusting us with a player they have gone on record as rating extremely highly.

“Peter is a top professional with the right mentality. He has experience, ability and a real hunger to improve, and we believe he will provide genuine competition for Andrew Mills, who has set a high standard since joining the club.

“To compete at the top end of this league, we believe it’s essential to have two top-class goalkeepers in the squad. Peter’s arrival ensures we have that balance and we’re confident he’ll add real value to the group over the course of the season.”
