Cup Fever hits East Belfast

Fri, 05/04/2013 - 15:23

It's been a rollercoaster of a season so far for Glentoran. With the problems off the pitch constantly grabbing the media headlines, the last week has finally seen Glentoran making the headlines for the right reasons: for football reasons. As the build up hits fever point for tomorrow's Irish Cup Semi-Final at Windsor Park, East Belfast prepares to decorate the national stadium in red, green and black. The support received throughout such a difficult season has been fantastic and tomorrow is an incredible opportunity to make it a season to remember on the pitch as well.

Glens suffer narrow defeat

Tue, 02/04/2013 - 17:10

Football is all about taking your chances and had Glentoran done that today then the points would have been theirs. With just 3 minutes played a free kick to Glentoran was swung into the danger zone by Stephen Carson. Marcus Kane met it but his header was straight at Glendinning in the home goal. Linfield broke straight down the field though and opened the scoring. Slack defending allowed Matthew Tipton to get a header on goal. Skipper, Elliott Morris produced a fantastic save, tipping the ball onto the crossbar but it fell straight to Peter Thompson who nodded home from close range.

Derby Day on Easter Tuesday

Mon, 01/04/2013 - 19:59

Easter Tuesday sees Derby Day hit Belfast as the original 'Big Two' lock horns at Windsor Park in the Danske Bank Premiership. Although Glentoran and Linfield find themselves 3rd and 4th best this season, the fixture still promises to serve up one of the big attendances of the domestic calendar and as always there will be no love lost between the two sides. Glentoran and Linfield may not be contesting for the league title but there is still significance in Tuesday's game.

Glentoran Academy Easter Ballot

Sun, 31/03/2013 - 20:55

Congratulations to Peter Murray who was the winner of the Academy ‘Easter Basket’ ballot sold at the Oval, with his winning ticket ‘Green 606-610’.  The academy would like to thank Peter and all others who kindly purchased tickets, helping to raise funds for us to invest in the development of future stars for Glentoran.  The Academy would also like to thank Marty Smith for her time and effort in organising this and the other baskets that are being balloted in several other locations.

Glentoran host Crusaders

Fri, 29/03/2013 - 11:13

Tomorrow's league game against Crusaders is the final game before the league splits into a top and bottom half. Both Glentoran and The Crues have secured their places in the top section with ease but now the pressure cranks up for the final 6 league fixtures in determining the final positions of each team. Glentoran are lying in 4th position, the disappointing defeat at home to Dungannon Swifts keeping us 5 points behind 3rd place Linfield. Coleraine are 3 points behind us in 5th with Ballinamallard still scraping for their top 6 finish with Portadown.
