Felix Reynolds

Former Glentoran player, Felix Reynolds, has passed away. Portadown born Reynolds was with Glentoran from the 1959-60 season until 1961-62. He played 46 games and scored 2 goals. The first of those goals came in a 7-3 home victory on Christmas Day, 1959 against Linfield. The other was in the quarter-final of the Gold Cup when the Glens defeated Ballymena Utd 3-1 at the Oval. Felix also played in the Gold Cup final that season, Glentoran defeating Linfield 4-2 at Solitude. After leaving Glentoran he had spells with Dundalk and Brighton.

Sunday 8th June 2014 and the BBC are running the Spain v Northern Ireland game again. It’s 32 years ago and we’ve all seen the footage many times but it’s still hard to believe that we really did it. John Motson’s commentary.......... “Arconada – Armstrong...!” The ball hits the back of the host side’s net and we are on our way to the second phase.

Glentoran Belfast United

Glentoran's Ladies side remain on top of the Concentrix Premier League after a scoreless draw against Crusaders Strikers at Seaview on Wednesday evening. It was the first points that Glentoran Belfast United had dropped this season after racking up 5 wins in their first five games. 

They began their League campaign with a 7-2 home win against Shankill Utd Predators. A 2-1 away win against Linfield Ladies followed and they kept the run going with further victories against Mid Ulster Ladies (3-0), Ballymena Utd All Stars (1-0) and Cliftonville Ladies (2-0).

On Sunday afternoon the Ghanaian head coach Kwesi Appiah named his final 23 man squad to travel to the 2014 World Cup Finals in Brazil. It’s fair to say that Glentoran Football Club and its supporters had more than a little interest in his selection.

Victoria GSC End of Season Dinner

On Friday the 31st of March the Victoria GSC hosted their end of season dinner in the RAFA Club at The Mount. With their newly announced Roy Manson Player of The Year, Stephen McAlorum, in attendance the night was sure to be fun. Also in attendance were Jason Hill and Marcus Kane, along with members of Jason’s testimonial committee.

Glentoran Gazette still on top

Yesterday saw the 32nd annual Northern Ireland Football Programme Collectors Club fair at which they also announced their Programme of the Year award.

We are very pleased to say that the Glentoran Gazette was selected as the winner, for what was a fantastic 14th year in a row and overall 16th title.

Congratulations go to Gazette Editor, Chris Holt designer Clifford Logan and all the contributors.  The photo below shows Gazette contributor, Jake Proctor receiving the award from NIFPCC Chairman, David Hand, in the absence of Chris Holt.

Mark Clarke and Mark Miskimmin

Mark Clarke and Mark Miskimmin have been told today that they are being made available to other clubs and that, should they wish to secure regular first team football, their future will lie elsewhere.  We thank both playersfor their contribution during their time with the club and wish them well for the future.
