Statement from Glentoran FC

Mon, 21/10/2013 - 15:11

We fully understand that some of our supporters may have concerns arising from the recent BBC report on DCAL funding of football stadia in Northern Ireland.

It would not be helpful for our club to respond directly to this report at this time nor to become publicly involved in what is essentially a matter for our politicians and for the IFA. However, we can reassure the broad Glentoran family that the Board continues to actively pursue its objective of securing a new stadium for Glentoran in East Belfast, thereby ensuring the club’s long-term future and success.

Player Profiles

Sun, 20/10/2013 - 18:28

As part of an on-going project by the social media teams to let fans learn more and interact with players, we are now launching payer profiles. Other events such as player Q/A’s have taken place recently on twitter with a great response from fans.

Player profiles will contain some basic information about the player such as date of birth, previous clubs etc.  Not all players have a profile yet but the majority are there.

Match Preview

Fri, 18/10/2013 - 20:30

With the first round of Danske Bank Premiership matches now complete, Glentoran currently sit in 6th place in the table with 16 points from our 11 games.

Next up for the Glens is a trip to the Coleraine Showgrounds for the reverse of the opening day fixture. Back in August a Jim O'Hanlon penalty gave the Glens a 1-nil lead at half-time before Coleraine hit back with a Shane Jennings equaliser.

Jim Lewis

Tue, 15/10/2013 - 13:50

Last weekend we learned of the passing of former Glentoran player, Jim Lewis. Described in Roy France's book as a utility player, Jim featured mainly as a full back or half back. He made his debut in the 1948-49 season and went on to make 158 appearances for the Glens, including playing in the 'Back to the Oval' game against Linfield and the three epic Irish Cup final games against Derry City in 1954; Jim being named 'Man of the Match' in the second match. By the time Jim Lewis finished at the Oval at the end of the 1955-56 season he'd scored 14 goals.
