Tomorrow's Gazette

Thu, 24/10/2019 - 12:36

The cover of tomorrow night’s Gazette is graced by a remarkable member of the Glentoran family.  Our oldest surviving player, Bertie Wright, celebrated his 100th birthday on Wednesday and will be guest of honour at Friday’s game against Ballymena United.  Don’t miss the story of one of the game’s gentlemen in Northern Ireland’s top match day programme.

Wee Glens progress in Intermediate Cup

Sat, 19/10/2019 - 22:30

Glentoran travelled to Kilkeel today for a very tough opening tie in this season's Intermediate Cup.

Valley Rangers are a highly rated side currently sitting on top of the Mid Ulster Intermediate League without defeat so it was always going to be a tough ask for the Glens.

Glentoran were boosted today by having almost a full panel of our highly rated young stars available - those who have been around the fringes of the first team squad in recent times.

Larne 2-3 Glentoran

Sat, 19/10/2019 - 00:35

Glentoran travelled north to Inver Park to face Larne in Friday night's Danske Bank Premiership game, televised live on BBC NI. It was the third meeting of the sides this season. In the previous two, played at the Oval, Larne started strongly and went in front only for Glentoran to fight back and win the game.

Match Preview: Larne v Glentoran

Thu, 17/10/2019 - 22:00

Friday 18 October 2019, Kick Off 7.45 pm

Tomorrow we head to Inver Park for the first time in twelve seasons to face Larne for the third time this season and the second time in four days.

Our last visit to Inver Park was in February 2008 when a Gary Hamilton hat trick secured a 3-0 win for Alan McDonald’s Glens. However, that was a very different Inver Park and a very different Larne FC from the ambitious, well resourced club, recently promoted from the Championship.

Glentoran 3-2 Larne (aet)

Wed, 16/10/2019 - 00:18

Glentoran reached their first semi-final in 4 years with an extra-time win over Larne at the Oval on Tuesday evening. Manager, Mick McDermott freshened up the side with a number of changes but it was the visitors who started the brighter, Conor McKendry firing a 30 yard effort just wide on 10 minutes. The same player had another opportunity just after the quarter hour mark but having gone past Marcus Kane and Patrick McClean he saw his low shot come back off the post.

The Pill Box restored

Mon, 14/10/2019 - 18:36

Saturday’s game against Carrick Rangers at the Oval saw the culmination of over a years work in a bid to restore the very unique WWII Type 24 Pill Box which has sat on top of Sydenham hill since its construction in 1940. Generations have grown up to accept the small incongruous building as a permanent fixture at the Oval. In recent years however, the building had fallen into disrepair. The fortification holds significant meaning not only for Glentoran, but for the whole of the city of Belfast as it is one of the few defences against the German Luftwaffe still in existence.
