Wee Glens progress in Intermediate Cup

Sat, 19/10/2019 - 22:30

Glentoran travelled to Kilkeel today for a very tough opening tie in this season's Intermediate Cup.

Valley Rangers are a highly rated side currently sitting on top of the Mid Ulster Intermediate League without defeat so it was always going to be a tough ask for the Glens.

Glentoran were boosted today by having almost a full panel of our highly rated young stars available - those who have been around the fringes of the first team squad in recent times.

Paul McLaughlin was solid between the sticks and was only really troubled once by Valley - when they took the lead after ten minutes.

For the rest of the half the Glens probed for an equaliser with Caolan McBride, Mal Smith and Salou Jallow all going close.

Corai Quinn got in behind the Valley defence and fired wide when we'll placed to equalise before Benji Magee rattled a post.

Early in the second half Magee did equalise as he acrobatically met a teasing cross to fire the ball in off the left hand post.

The Glens played some super football in the second period and really should have been out of sight long before Salou Jallow cashed in on brave play by Corai Quinn to steer home the winner.
