Irish Cup Round Five

A new experience as we travel to Knockramer Park to face Lurgan Celtic in the Irish Cup Fifth Round.
This is the first time we have faced Lurgan Celtic in a competitive fixture, although we played them at the Oval in July 2016 as part of the deal to transfer Chris Lavery to Glentoran. On that occasion we won 1-0 with Lavery appropriately scoring the winner.
Four Glentoran U20 and Academy players (more than any other club) were today named in the Northern Ireland final training squad for the 2018 Centenary Under 18 Shield.
The players in question are Paul ONeill, Eamon McLaughlin, Jamie Glover and Jack Henderson.
Congratulations to tye four players and good luck in the tournament.
This season, for the first time, there will be a Glentoran Player Of The Month, voted on by Glentoran supporters. The poll will appear following the last game of each calendar month and the winner announced on this website early the following month. Just place your vote beside your choice. Voting closes at 11.59pm on Friday 5th January with the winner announced the following day.
Glentoran's Danske Bank fixture against Warrenpoint Town was called off at halftime due to severe weather conditions. The match officials and the Glentoran Event Safety manager agreed shortly after the halftime whistle that the game should be abandoned in the interests of safety of both players and spectators.
It is to the immense credit of Glentoran's groundsman, William Kirkwood, that the game even got started. William's superb work on the Oval playing surface over the past few seasons meant that despite the heavy rain, the pitch was passed fit for play.
Glentoran v Warrenpoint Town
Tuesday 2nd January 2018, 7.45pm kick off.
Warrenpoint Town visit the Oval for the second time this season, in tenth place and on a run of eight league games without a win.
We’ve won both matches we’ve played this season – a 2-0 home win in September through goals from Curtis Allen and Robbie McDaid and a 2-3 victory at Milltown in late November when goals from Daniel Kelly (2) and Tiarnan McNicholl saw us through in a tense match after we lost an early two goal lead.
Glentoran FC is delighted to announce that Calum Birney this week signed an extension to his current contract. That means Calum is now committed to Glentoran until the end of the 2020/2021 season.
The Stangmore Park ground passed an 11am pitch inspection but the 90+ minutes of this afternoon's Danske Bank Premiership game won't live long in the memory.

This Saturday we look to build on our Boxing Day “Big Two” victory with another win on our second visit of the season to Stangmore Park.
Glentoran FC is delighted to announce that our longest serving player, Elliott Morris, this week signed an extension to his current contract. That means Elliott is now committed to Glentoran until the end of the 2019/20 season. This is a great boost to the club, particularly since Elliott has won the vote for Supporters’ Player of the Month for the past three consecutive months, setting a great example to his younger, less experienced team mates.
