Glentoran Football Club would like to place on record its deep and sincere thanks to a number of our supporters’ clubs who in recent months have come together to provide funding for the purchase of two essential new water pumps for the Oval. Their funding also helped cover a number of other but often hidden costs associated with the installation of the pumps.
This initiative, which was led by Stormont Glentoran Supporters Club and fully supported by the Castlereagh, Ballymacarrett, Quarry, Internet and Cougars GSCs, has enabled the provision of this essential resource at no expense to the parent club. Indeed the Castlereagh club’s generous donation alone was sufficient to cover the total cost of one of the two pumps.
We are confident that the installation of the pumps – which were kindly fitted by East End Electrical – will go a long way towards eliminating the threat of cancellation/postponement of future home fixtures during adverse weather conditions. Given the location of the Oval this has plagued the club often in the recent past.
We all recognise that the past few years have represented one of the most challenging periods in the illustrious 135 year history of Glentoran. As a Board of Directors we are happy to recognise that gestures of this nature from across the Glentoran fraternity are vital to successfully securing and strengthening the club’s future. Our supporters are the lifeblood of this club. Without their hard work and contribution Glentoran would be a very different and much lesser club.
