Elliott Signs On

Wed, 27/12/2017 - 18:02

Glentoran FC is delighted to announce that our longest serving player, Elliott Morris, this week signed an extension to his current contract. That means Elliott is now committed to Glentoran until the end of the 2019/20 season. This is a great boost to the club, particularly since Elliott has won the vote for Supporters’ Player of the Month for the past three consecutive months, setting a great example to his younger, less experienced team mates.

Elliott’s thoughts on his new contract are contained in the interview with GlensTV.  However Manager Gary Haveron said: “I’m delighted to get this contract sorted and also to know we’ll be able to rely on Elliott for the next couple of years. His performances this season - in fact since I got here – have been consistently excellent. I recently said when we won at Dungannon that Elliott must be one of the greatest, if not THE greatest goalkeepers ever to play for Glentoran and I’m sure that with this new contract he can set a new Glentoran appearances record that might never be broken.

As I said when he won one of his Player of the Month awards earlier in the season, I’ve known him since we were both 15, played with him at nearly every level of junior international football, played against him in the Irish League for over a decade and he still has the same high standards as he did when he was a young player setting out on what’s been an incredibly successful career. He’s both a legend and a leader at Glentoran and is a role model for all our young players. Elliott signing another contract with the club is a great vote of confidence in the future of Glentoran and a massive boost for the whole club.”

Elliott joined Glentoran from West Bromwich Albion in July 2002. In his first season he won the first of his three League Championship medals. In total he has won eleven winner’s medals with Glentoran including three league championships and three Irish Cups. This week’s Boxing Day win over Linfield was his 673rd appearance for the club, a statistic that makes him second to only Colin Nixon as our all time record appearance holder. Who would bet against Elliott passing what seemed to an unbeatable total during the course of this latest contract?
