Glentoran 3 - 1 Warrenpoint Town

Sat, 16/08/2014 - 17:32

Glentoran won their first three point haul of the season against Warrenpoint Town at a blustery Oval this afternoon.  Manager Eddie Patterson rang the changes after Wednesday night’s defeat against Linfield with Jay Magee, Marcus Kane, Jim O’Hanlon, David Howland and Curtis Allen all drafted into the starting eleven.  With both first and second choice ‘keepers Elliott Morris and Aaron Hogg out injured last gasp signing from Islandmagee Chris Keenan also came in over six years after his one and only previous appearance for the Glens.

Glens look to Bounce Back

Sat, 16/08/2014 - 12:04

Following a disappointing 3-2 defeat at the hands of Big Two rivals Linfield on Saturday night, Glentoran will need to bounce back instantly and hopefully record our first victory of the new season at home to Warrenpoint today.

Glentoran led Linfield by two goals to nil early in the second half but sloppy defending allowed Linfield back into the game before they grabbed the last gap winner in stoppage time. Despite the obvious disappointment, there is time for optimism with The Glens arguably still missing their centre back partnership and number 1 striker Curtis Allen.

If like me, you thought we didn't deserve to lose last night against Linfield, then get yourself down to the Oval on Saturday for our next home fixture against Warrenpoint Town. If we perform like we did last night then I'm confident we will get a first win on the board.

Late Heartbreak for Glens

Following Saturday's excellent display against Cliftonville, Glentoran were looking to follow it up with a good performance against Linfield in the first Big Two clash of the new season. Glentoran only made one change from Saturday's draw with Barry Holland making his competitive debut at left back meaning Stephen McCullough missed out.

First Big Two Clash at Oval

Wed, 13/08/2014 - 14:57

Despite Cliftonville dominating the domestic scene in the last couple of seasons, Belfast's original 'Big Two' game remains Northern Irish football's stand out fixture. Whenever Glentoran meet Linfield there is guaranteed the top crowd of the season and almost always a game of entertaining quality.

Academy Parade Tomorrow

Tue, 12/08/2014 - 23:13

Glentoran Football Club has a rich history of success and our academy has been no different in the last few years. In May we are used to the messages coming in of league title successes and Northern Ireland Boys Cup Finals but this year has had something particularly special. Since the close of the youth season in May, Glentoran have had possibly the best summer in the history of the academy.
