Academy Parade Tomorrow

Tue, 12/08/2014 - 23:13

Glentoran Football Club has a rich history of success and our academy has been no different in the last few years. In May we are used to the messages coming in of league title successes and Northern Ireland Boys Cup Finals but this year has had something particularly special. Since the close of the youth season in May, Glentoran have had possibly the best summer in the history of the academy.

Representing the club in the Foyle Cup were three Glentoran teams with the current U10s and U14s coming out victorious bringing silverware back to East Belfast. Perhaps the biggest story though was our U13s who took on Europe in Berlin. The 13s made it all the way to Glentoran's first European Cup Final in 100 years exactly as the youngsters made history alongside the famous Vienna Cup win. Defeating some of Europe's top sides we eventually lost narrowly to Slovenia in the Final.

Further Glentoran have had an abundance of representation for both counties and Northern Ireland in the Milk Cup and Galway Cup with a number of boys picking up international trophies to go with their ever growing collection.

As a show of support, gratitude and pride in the efforts of our young boys and coaches, the three teams will be presented to a hopefully packed house at The Oval tomorrow evening against Linfield. It will be a brilliant opportunity for the fans to show their support for what has truly been a special few months for young Glentoran players.

Let's make sure we have a big crowd in to give the boys a taste of Oval action that they will hopefully be getting regularly in a few years time.

Well done to everyone involved!
