Academy Update

Wed, 29/10/2014 - 18:17

It is hard to believe but we are almost a quarter of the way through the 2014/15 season and this season is already shaping up to be a record breaker for the Academy!

To date we have had 42 players either currently in advanced trials with or selected for Northern Ireland squads at various ages from U11 to U19. The stand out stories here being 10 players at under 15 and 10 players at under 14 in the relevant NI squads - more than any other club!

Happy Birthday

Thu, 23/10/2014 - 18:57

Everyone at Glentoran FC would like to wish Bertie Wright a very happy 95th birthday.

A Glentoran player in the 1940's, Bertie is still a regular at Glentoran matches and is pictured here with another club legend, Trevor Thompson.

Many happy returns Bertie.

Coleraine 1-0 Glentoran

Sat, 18/10/2014 - 18:30

A goal early in the second half saw Coleraine beat Glentoran 1-0 at the Showgrounds this afternoon.

Glentoran went into this game against Coleraine without midfielders Kym Nelson (hamstring injury) and Fra McCaffrey, the latter having failed a late fitness test due to a groin injury. Jay Magee, who played for the Seconds in their 2-2 draw at Seaview in midweek was back in the squad however.

Vienna Cup Shirt Auction

Wed, 15/10/2014 - 20:05

The recent photo shoot for the Vienna Cup Shirts had Elliott Morris and Kym Nelson modelling. Elliott wore the keeper’s jersey with “Morris” on the back, whilst Kym wore the green outfield strip (pictured). The name on the back of Kym’s shirt was “Lindsay”, and it carries the number 14.

The Lindsay brothers played for Glentoran in the 1914 Irish Cup Final against Linfield, and scored the winning goals which ultimately took the Glens to Vienna as winners!
