Glentoran 1 - 0 Carrick Rangers

Fri, 24/03/2017 - 22:36

A second half goal from Nacho Novo gave Glentoran a deserved victory over Carrick Rangers this evening, their first at the Oval since November.  Following last week’s win at Ballymena Gary Haveron was forced into making two changes to the starting line-up, Stephen McAlorum and Chris Lavery coming in for the suspended Marcus Kane and Steven Gordon. Before the kick off there was an impeccably observed minute’s silence in memory of Derry City captain Ryan McBride and those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in London this week.

Glentoran v Carrick Rangers

Friday 24 March 2017, 7.45pm

On Friday evening we welcome Carrick Rangers to the Oval for our third meeting of the season.
Carrick’s previous visit to the Oval, our third game of the season back in August, is widely seen as the match that set the tone for our poor season as a goal from Miguel Chines won the match 1-0 for Carrick. In October we visited the Belfast Loughshore Hotel Arena for a 1-2 win through goals from Curtis Allen and Steven Gordon.

The Grosvenor boys won the Northern Ireland Schools’ Cup after a 3-1 win over St Columbs, Londonderry at Seaview on St. Patrick’s Day.

Goals from Josh Kelly and Stuart Nelson in extra time brought the cup to East Belfast after Conor Kernoghan’s opener was cancelled out in normal time.

Jimmy Duncan’s Irish Cup medal

Mon, 20/03/2017 - 22:25

The 1935 Irish Cup final between Larne and Glentoran took almost a month to complete!  The Glens had reached the decider having seen off Ards (3-1), Linfield (4-2) and then Ballymena United in the semi-final (3-0). A scoreless draw in the first game on 6th April was followed by another four days later. The third and decisive game, played at Windsor Park on 30th April ended in a 1-nil victory for Glentoran and was the 6th of our 22 wins in the competition.

Ballymena United 2-4 Glentoran

Sat, 18/03/2017 - 21:47

A hat-trick from Curtis Allen and a close range header from Steven Gordon gave the Glens a much needed three points at the Ballymena Showgrounds this afternoon. The result moved Glentoran to within a point of 7th placed Dungannon Swifts and the race for that Europa League play-off place is very much alive.
