Glentoran v Carrick Rangers

Friday 24 March 2017, 7.45pm

On Friday evening we welcome Carrick Rangers to the Oval for our third meeting of the season.
Carrick’s previous visit to the Oval, our third game of the season back in August, is widely seen as the match that set the tone for our poor season as a goal from Miguel Chines won the match 1-0 for Carrick. In October we visited the Belfast Loughshore Hotel Arena for a 1-2 win through goals from Curtis Allen and Steven Gordon.

Carrick are 3 places and 15 points behind us so a home win will be the objective as we pursue the goal of a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Manager Gary Haveron said: “Moko and Stevie Gordon will miss the match through one match suspensions which is a real disappointment given how well they both performed last week against Ballymena.
We can all take confidence from last week’s excellent performance but supporters can rest assured I am only too aware that we haven't produced that level often this season. Nacho and Curtis were a real handful throughout the Ballymena match and both they and I are hoping they can produce that level again against Carrick. Everyone has trained this week ahead of what will be a difficult game against a Carrick side coming of the back of a good victory themselves against Portadown.

I was very pleased with Conall Delaney on his debut. He obviously grew in confidence as the game went on and that will do him the world of good. There were a number of standout performances last Saturday but I would rather focus on the collective attitude of the lads and how they bounced straight back after they got back to 1-1 to quickly push on and get the result we really deserved”.

Stephen McAlorum should be available again after missing last week with sickness.

The Board of Directors at Glentoran Football Club would again request that all supporters travelling to the Oval by private car consider the local residents when deciding where and how to park.
