Obituary: Mr Dessie Meehan

Sun, 21/08/2016 - 00:25

The Chairman, Directors and staff of Glentoran Football Club would like to offer condolences on the death of lifelong Glenman Dessie Meehan, father in law of our club secretary Ricky Rea. Dessie, originally from Westbourne Street and latterly resident in Bangor, was a season ticket holder for over 60 years. He often travelled to away games with the North Down GSC. Dessie is survived by his widow May, and his daughters Deborah, Karen and Jean and grandchildren Ricky Jnr, Suzi and Kellie. Deborah is often seen helping out in the secretary's office on matchdays.

Portadown 0-1 Glentoran

Sat, 20/08/2016 - 22:32

Kym Nelson's strike, early in the second half, earned the Glens all 3 points at Shamrock Park and moved them up to 6th place in the Danske Bank Premiership.

Following the bitter disappointment of last week’s defeat at The Oval, a large contingent of Glentoran supporters made their way to Shamrock Park hoping for a better performance from their wee team and getting the league campaign properly started.

It is often said that football can be a game of two halves and this certainly proved to be the case this afternoon.

Under 20s: Carrick Rangers vs Glentoran

Thu, 18/08/2016 - 22:56
Glentoran Under 20s made it three wins out of three as they defeated Carrick Rangers at The Cliff, Larne on Wednesday evening.

The Glens started the game brightly having five chances in the opening ten minutes. The first goal of the game came shortly after, a switched ball to the right hand side saw Tiarnan McAuley play a ball into the box. Forward Paul O'Neill stepped off his defender and placed it into the back of the net.

Following successive defeats to Cliftonville and Carrick Rangers, Glentoran will be looking to get their Danske Bank Premiership campaign back on track when they face Portadown at Shamrock Park on Saturday. Manager, Alan Kernaghan will be hoping that his side capitalise on their domination of possession in most games with goals. Indeed the East Belfast side have found the net just once in their opening three league fixtures; Ciaran Caldwell’s strike on the opening day of the season against Dungannon Swifts.

Glens defeated by Carrick at Oval

Sun, 14/08/2016 - 21:32

Glentoran were looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat by Cliftonville at Solitude on Wednesday night. Carrick Rangers visited The Oval having lost their two opening NIFL Premiership games so far and having not won against Glentoran since 1993 in any league game. Team news for Glentoran brought a bit of buzz back from Wednesday's disappointment as summer signing Nacho Novo was handed his first start as a Glentoran player alongside Curtis Allen up front.
