A very young Glentoran team was unfortunate to lose to last season’s League Champions at Seaview, with a hat trick from the experienced Mikhael Kennedy the difference between the sides.
In the first half the Glens boys started on the front foot and took the lead on three mins. George Feeney broke clear and rounded the keeper to finish in style. Crusaders then fought back and equalised through Kennedy on twenty mins. It remained that way until the break/
With just over a month of the 2023 season left, Glentoran Women stand 3 points clear at the top of the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership and are in the semi final of the Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup (Irish Cup). So everything to play for, for this multi trophy winning squad.
Two goals 87 minutes apart from strikers Junior and Jay Donnelly gave Glentoran a third away clean sheet and win out of three in this dominant performance at the Showgrounds this evening.
Yet again, injuries forced Warren Feeney into playing another rearranged back four with James Singleton at right back, skipper Marcus Kane on the left with Paddy McClean making his first start of the season beside Luke McCullough. Cammy Palmer came into the midfield for the injured Bobby Burns and Junior started up front with Jay Donnelly.
Yet another hat trick from the league’s top scorer Kerry Beattie led the way at Ashfield as Glentoran Women overcame third placed Sion to maintain their 3-point lead at the top of the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership with five games left to play.
With an unchanged starting 11 from last week’s cup win at Lisburn, the Glens took at early lead in the first minute when Beattie finished off a pass from Emily Wilson. Two minutes later Beattie got her second to extend the lead.
With ticket demand for some games now outstripping supply we are launching a supporter driven away ticket membership scheme to give Glentoran supporters the opportunity to guarantee themselves entry to all the club’s away matches.
For matches where it is likely that our allocation is insufficient to meet demand (for example Larne, Cliftonville, Portadown etc) for league or cup games (including European ties), members will have access to an exclusive 24-hour window during which they will be able to purchase a ticket before they go on general sale.
Tomorrow evening we make our first visit of the season to the Ballymena Showgrounds.
After a summer of major changes, Ballymena United have endured a run of 4 defeats in a challenging start to the campaign.

On Friday evening Glentoran Women return to league action when they welcome third placed Sion Swifts Ladies to Ashfield.
The Glens are six points ahead of Swifts who – like their hosts – are on a good run of form in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership on a run of five consecutive wins. They have lost just two league games, both to the league’s top two sides.
Following the postponement of last Saturday's Sports Direct Premiership fixture with Crusaders, the NI Football League has rescheduled the game for Tuesday 29 August at the Bet McLean Oval (kick off 7.45pm).
Tickets purchased for the postponed match remain valid.
Also, please note that Newry City have changed the kick off time of our match at Newry Showgrounds on Saturday 9 September. That game will now kick off at 5.30pm.
Holders Glentoran have been paired with Sion Swifts Ladies in today’s draw for the semi final of the Electric Ireland Women's Challenge Cup, Northern Ireland's premier knock out tournament.
The match will be held on Friday 15th September 2023. Kick off is at 19:30, The the venue will be confirmed in due course.
Ballynahinch Glentoran Supporters Club will be welcoming the Glentoran Legends squad this Sunday for a charity match with Ballynahinch United Over 40s. The match is in aid of this year's chosen charity for 2023/24, the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance. Everyone is cordially invited and will be very welcome.
