Glentoran Football Club are proud to announce that the Glentoran Academy will be placing 2000 green, red & black flyers on the temporary seating on the Sydenham End Terrace for every fan to hold up as the team takes to the pitch on Saturday. This initiative was entirely devised by the coaches and players and the boys and girls of our academy will be arriving early Saturday to attach them to each individual seat.
In 1980 Glentoran manager Ronnie McFall was moulding together one of the greatest squads to ever grace Irish football. That summer he signed two new centre halfs in Alan Harrison and Trevor Erskine as well as 22 year old Jim Cleary from Portadown. Despite Glentoran sitting top of the Ulster Cup table, McFall wanted somebody to provide the crosses for Gary Blackledge up front. He completed the signing of Johnny Jameson from cross-city rivals Linfield.
We will be holding our pre-Irish Cup Final Party at the Oval this Friday evening between 6pm - 9pm
Come along and meet the players and wish them well for the big day....
Jim Weatherup made his first team debut for Glentoran at the tender age of 17 in 1956. He entered the team in an incredible run of 5 games in a row where Glentoran conceded 3 times. We lost 4 of them 3-2! The other we salvaged a 3-3 draw. The 3-2 defeat against Bangor was Bimbo's debut where Glentoran missed two penalties on way to defeat. The day was remembered for the opening of Glentoran's new changing rooms for the first time since the Oval re-opened following the bombing in the Second World War.

Each year Glentoran supporters get to vote for their 'Player of the Year' at one of the final home fixtures of the season. The vote is organised by Castlereagh Glentoran supporters Club and at yesterday's game their Chairman, David Stewart and members of Castlereagh GSC presented this year's winner, Jordan Stewart, with the trophy.
In 1965/66 Glentoran ended a 15 year wait to pick up the Irish Cup crown for an 8th time, once again against the old enemy Linfield. Terry Conroy was the hero on the day, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory. Conroy was born in Dublin and signed for Glentoran at the age of 19 following a spell with Home Farm. He signed for the Glens and went straight into the squad for the Seconds in the Steel and Sons Cup Final victory over Larne.
