Match Preview: Glentoran Women v Mid Ulster Ladies

Thu, 23/05/2024 - 23:20

Friday 24th May

Kick Off 7.45pm

Tomorrow evening the champions welcome Mid Ulster Ladies to the Blanchflower for our second game in this season’s Sports Direct Women’s Premiership.

The Tyrone based visitors finished ninth in last season’s table and the fixtures haven’t been kind to them so far, as they’ve started the new term with heavy defeats to Crusaders (away) and Cliftonville (home).

Mid Ulster’s last visit in August 2023 ultimately resulted in a 5-0 home win but that gives a somewhat misleading picture of a hard-fought game. The Glens led by a single Megan Neill goal at the break, doubled just after the restart by Kerry Beattie. But it took a Joely Andrews hat trick in the last 20 minutes to finally make the game safe.

The Glens will go into this one with a strong squad in a good frame of mind following last weekend’s 5-1 away win over Sligo Rovers and a 6-0 home win over Crusaders in the opening premiership game.

Head Coach Kim Turner spoke to www.glentoran.com ahead of the game : “We are looking forward to another league game after our free week last week. We are coming off the back of two great results and great performances in our last 2 games ( Crusaders and Sligo) and we are feeling good. We will approach the game on Friday as we approach all our games, we feel prepared after a great week of training. The players have had a great preseason and we will be ready for whatever we come up against one game at a time.”
