Match Preview: Glentoran Women v Derry City Women

Thu, 13/06/2024 - 17:07

Friday 14th June

Kick Off 7.45pm

A hectic period for Glentoran Women continues tomorrow night when we face an in-form Derry City at the Blanchflower Stadium. A win in this one would take the Glens top of the early season Sports Direct Premiership table as Cliftonville Ladies have no game and this uses up the Glens’ game in hand over the Reds.

Our last meeting back in April in the Quarter Final of the NIFL Women’s Premiership League Cup ended in an 8-0 home win for the Glens at Ashfield. Our scorers that evening were Emily Wilson (3), Kascie Weir (2), Jess Foy, Kelly Bailie and Megan Neill.

That result won’t be on the minds of Glentoran tomorrow night as Derry currently sit fourth after 2 very good wins over Crusaders (H) and Lisburn Ladies (A) in their last 2 games. They have been well strengthened through recruitment of a number of experienced players from Sion Swifts following Sion’s close season withdrawal from the league. Their captain Shannon Dunne will be well known to Glens supporters as she recently had 2 successful seasons in East Belfast.

We pick from a nearly full squad, boosted by Monday night by the goalscoring return of Sarah Tweedie after university and an injury. Only Annie Timoney and Ellie Scott remain sidelined by injury.

A reminder also that Season Tickets for the Glentoran Women 2024 season remain on sale.

Season Tickets are £40 each and will secure admission to ALL home games in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership, Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup, and the County Antrim Cup.

Tickets can be bought HERE.

See you there.
