23 for the 23!

No matter what happens on the pitch each season, you can always rely on one element of the club to top the table. This year is no different as the Glentoran Gazette yet again was declared winner of Northern Ireland Programme of the Year for a remarkable 23rd consecutive season.

The award was announced and presented at yesterday’s Northern Ireland Football Programme Collectors’ Club Annual Programme Fair at Grosvenor House in the city centre by David Hand, Chairman of the NI Football Programme Collectors' Club. This year to honour NIFCC founding member Gary Cowan of the Ballymacarrett GSC who sadly passed away earlier this year, his family were invited to the event and Gary’s wife Karen co-presented the award.

As is well known, the Gazette has always been published by the Glentoran Supporters' Committee (1923) so the award was received by 1923 Chairman Jimmy Carter.  Jimmy spoke to : “1923 was delighted to win the NIFPCC programme of the year award for the 23rd consecutive year. We were honoured to receive the award from the family of the late Gary Cowan. The Gazette is a team effort. This is worthy recognition for all the hard work put in by our editor John Grayden, ably assisted by Norman Ternahan, and his excellent team of contributors. All those involved from design, writing, photography and selling are Glentoran supporters. Thank you to everyone who buys a Gazette.

We would also like to thank everyone who has purchased a Gazette throughout the season and indeed over the years. It really makes all the efforts in putting the Gazette together, and indeed in selling it, all worthwhile. I was honoured to receive the award from Karen Cowan and her family as Gary had collected the Gazette since his youth. Plans are already in place for next season's Gazette , when hopefully we can make it 24 in a row.”
