New first team manager Alan Kernaghan speaks to GlensTV for the first time.
Glentoran FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Alan Kernaghan as team manager with immediate effect. Alan will have responsibility for all playing matters at all levels throughout the club.
Before kick off both teams and both sets of supporters respectfully observed a minute's silence on this Remembrance weekend.
Glentoran will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games as they travel to the Ballymena Showgrounds tomorrow.
The managerless East Belfast side have collected eight points in their last four league games to leapfrog Ronnie McFall’s struggling Portadown for sixth spot.
The latest point came last week at the Oval where the spoils were shared with a Coleraine side rich in form. The Bannsiders were on the back of tremendous run, gathering six wins and two draws in their previous eight games.
Glentoran would like to extend our best wishes to Northern Ireland U16 as they commence their Victory Shield campaign at 2pm on Sunday against the Republic of Ireland in Wales.
This years Victory Shield has a different look to it as it is without England, Sunday's opponents the Republic of Ireland taking their place. The tournament also will take place at one venue across one week as opposed to the traditional home and away fixtures.
This year's tournament will take place in Wales at the Welsh FA's Football Development Centre in Newport, Dragan Park.
To the casual onlooker, this season has been an up and down one so far for Glentoran Academy - scratch just below the surface however and revealed is a fast tracked system to the top of the local game.
A bold statement perhaps but the emergence of Jonathan Smith into first team football and the selection of five players for next week's Victory Shield speaks for itself.
Glentoran and Coleraine played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Oval on Saturday. With both sides in good form of late, it was always going to be a tight affair and so it proved with few clear cut chances.
We would like to advise supporters attending Saturday's Danske Bank Premiership game at the Oval between Glentoran and Coleraine that the normal approach road to the Oval, Parkgate Drive, is closed to traffic due to ongoing road works. Pedestrian access is still possible.
The Glentoran Academy have another big Announcement as our youth program continues to grow and this week will launch our first soccer school in the Antrim area.
