This is my Oval

Wed, 24/02/2016 - 11:16

This is from the series in the Glentoran Gazette ‘This is my Oval’ and it focuses on volunteers and loyal supporters who give that little bit extra to the club. It’s about getting the recognition the volunteers deserve and hopefully it’ll inspire others to give up their time too.  This is a look back on last seasons articles

Glentoran 0-1 Derry City

Tue, 23/02/2016 - 23:12

A goal in the 43rd minute from Barry McNamee decided tonight's friendly fixture at the Oval.

Glentoran manager, Alan Kernaghan, rang the changes for the game with 3 trialists in the starting line up; Stephen Rice, Ola Olajubu and Neil Donaghy. He also gave starts to a number of players who have not featured in recent matches.

Glentoran 2-0 Ballymena United

Sun, 21/02/2016 - 00:03

Glentoran capitalised on Monday’s win at Mourneview Park with another good three points as they defeated Ballymena United by two goals to nil at the Oval this afternoon. Goals from Johnny Smith and Ciaran Caldwell saw the Glens safely to consecutive victories for the first time in 2016. Alan Kernaghan unsurprisingly named an unchanged 11 for the home side who were looking to avoid defeat against a Ballymena side who traditionally have a good record at the Oval, winning 5 and losing just two of their last 8 league visits to East Belfast.

Match Preview

Glentoran will be looking for their second win in a week as they entertain Ballymena United at the Oval in the Danske Bank Premiership.

The Glens ended a run of four league defeats following an impressive display against Glenavon on Monday night.

The Lurgan Blues dumped the East Belfast side out of the Irish Cup in a recent meeting, but the Glens avenged this defeat with a 1-3 victory at Mourneview Park.

600 Up for Elliott

Tue, 16/02/2016 - 19:09

Glentoran’s excellent win on Monday night at Mourneview Park was a cause for double celebration for goalkeeper Elliott Morris.  After a bit of a wait following his recent injury the Glentoran number one turned out for a remarkable 600th appearance in a first team jersey.

We are pleased to announce that our captain, Stephen McAlorum and defender Willie Garrett have now had the operations needed following their recent serious knee injuries. We wish both players a quick recovery and speedy return to first team action.
