Glentoran Academy Tournament and Family Day

Tue, 15/03/2016 - 10:05

It was fantastic day at Shorts FC on Sunday, for the Glentoran Academy 2008 Tournament and Family Day.

The mighty Glens dominated their final game but were unlucky against Larne Youth who knocked them out of the tournament. The 2008 Colts played superbly and were unlucky to get beaten on penalties by Coleraine. The tournament finished with Rosario winning the Cup. Coleraine won the plate and Portavogie won the bronze trophy. Congratulations to all 3 clubs.

Report- Linfield 3-0 Glentoran

Sat, 12/03/2016 - 18:20

Glentoran produced a poor display and deservedly were defeated 3-0 by arch rivals Linfield at The National Stadium.  Jonathan Smith was on the bench replaced by Fra McCaffrey returning to the right hand side of Glentoran's front three with Chris Lavery on the other side of Curtis Allen.  Along with Lavery, Stephen Rice made his first Big Two appearance for Glentoran in midfield alongside Jonny Addis and Ciaran Caldwell whilst the back four remained unchanged.

Robert Craig: An Appreciation

Wed, 09/03/2016 - 22:55

5th April 1987 is a day that will live in the memory of thousands of Glens supporters over the age 0f 40.  It was the day we beat Linfield 3-2 at the Oval in the final of one of our favourite old tournaments, the Gold Cup. It was also the day the cup was won by a great run and strike from one of our own, 18 year old winger and lifelong Glenman, Robert Craig.

Another article from the Gazette Series ‘This is My Oval’ at focuses on volunteers and loyal supporters who give that little bit extra to the club. It’s about getting the recognition the volunteers deserve and hopefully it’ll inspire others to give up their time too.

Glentoran 0-2 Cliftonville

Tue, 01/03/2016 - 23:24

Glentoran faced Cliftonville tonight following two poor results from both sides at the weekend. Glentoran were controversially defeated 1-0 by Ballinamallard whilst Cliftonville were surprisingly blown away by Coleraine at Solitude. Glentoran were without Aaron Hogg and Stephen Gordon who were both unfortunate to be sent off in Saturday's defeat. Debutant Stephen Rice replaced Gordon in midfield whilst Aaron Hogg was replaced by Elliott Morris in goals despite still struggling with injury. Development squad goalkeeper Adam McCormick was on the bench.

Glentoran host Cliftonville in tonight’s Danske Bank Premiership tie following defeats for both sides on Saturday.

The Glens were unable to make it three league wins in a row for the first time this season with one goal at Ferney Park being enough to seal three points for Whitey Anderson’s Ballinamallard United.
