Glentoran travel to the National Stadium tomorrow with hopes of denting Linfield’s title challenge.

The Belfast ‘Big Two’ clash for the third time this campaign, and the Glens will be looking to reclaim bragging rights as they have failed to secure a win in the two previous meetings this season.

Although the showdown will not determine a title advantage between the sides, a win for Alan Kernaghan’s men could halt Linfield’s challenge on table-toppers Crusaders.

Pride is always at stake in this fierce fixture and the East Belfast side can inflict a seventh Irish Premiership defeat to David Healy’s side.

However, the Blues are in a rich vein of form having lost just once of their last 10 games, leaving them seven points behind the Hatchet men in pole position.

The hosts will also be buoyed knowing they haven’t been beaten by their East Belfast foes in their last six meetings.

Although Kernaghan and his side will not be discouraged by this record, eyes will be firmly set on claiming derby triumph for the Glens faithful following their Boxing Day despair last year.

Once the festive game got underway at a flooded Oval it was Linfield who claimed all the spoils as they sealed a 1-2 victory.

Niall Quinn’s free-kick put the visitors ahead before Paul Smyth doubled their advantage.  There was a small fightback from the Glens as youngster Jonathon Smith halved the deficit, but Linfield were able to hold on to win.

Glentoran go into tomorrow’s game on the back of consecutive defeats and just three wins in their last 10 games. Despite their inconsistency a victory will help secure a top six finish before the league splits in late March.

Steven Gordon will not feature tomorrow - the midfielder is still serving a ban following his dismissal at Ballinamallard United.
