Obituary: Billy Stephens

Tue, 27/09/2022 - 18:10

Glentoran Football Club is deeply saddeened at the passing of our lifelong supporter and former director, Billy Stephens.

Billy - long term owner of the much missed Park Avenue Hotel, venue for so many of the most memorable occasions in Glentoran's history - was a Glentoran Director from the late 1980s until 2001. During that period he was a major player within the club during some spells of great success on the field and virtually annual participation in Europe.

Crusaders Strikers 0-0 Glentoran Women

Thu, 22/09/2022 - 00:40

Holders Glentoran Women’s grip on the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership took a serious blow tonight in this goalless draw at Seaview.

The champions, at full strength apart from the injured Annie Timoney and the long-term absentee Sam Kelly, had the bulk of possession throughout the game, but apart from an Emma McMaster header against the crossbar, had little to show for it at half time as third placed Crusaders worked hard throughout to deprive the Glens of any time in possession.

Another award for Joely

Mon, 19/09/2022 - 01:19

Glentoran's Euro 2022 star Joely Andrews is the Danske Bank Women’s Player of the Month for August.

The midfielder - last season's Ulster Player of the Year -  followed her success at international level with a string of fine performances for club Glentoran in August.

Joely played for the Glens in the Women’s Champions League and scored an impressive brace in a 4-0 derby victory over Linfield Ladies in the Danske Bank Premiership.

August Award for Mick

Sun, 18/09/2022 - 12:38

Mick McDermott has been named NIFL Manager of the Month for August.

The Glens drew with Larne and defeated Crusaders, Dungannon Swifts and Portadown to finish the month unbeaten.

McDermott said: “After a disappointing end to last season, we needed a good start to this season.

“Some people might say we haven’t played the top teams, because that’s people’s nature unfortunately, but I don’t look at it that way.
