Charlie returns - for good

Tue, 09/07/2024 - 19:00

The club is delighted to announce that Charlie Lindsay has left Derby County to rejoin Glentoran on a permanent basis. Charlie (20) is very much one of our own who captained the all-conquering Glentoran 2004 team (that included Aaron Wightman and Jonny Russell) for many years before moving to Rangers as a 16-year-old in 2020.

Charlie was Glentoran’s youngest ever outfield first teamer when as a 15-year-old he came on as sub v Ballyclare Comrades in the County Antrim Shield at the Bet McLean Oval in September 2019. He joined Rangers in the summer of 2020, moving to Derby County in the summer of 2003. In his loan spell in the latter half of last season Charlie scored twice in his 10 mostly substitute appearances.

Declan Devine: “Charlie is a lad I’ve known for a long time and I’m delighted we have him back at a club that loves him and means so much to him. Charlie’s had some setbacks for one so young but that’s the story of so many young players and I know Charlie has everything it takes to put all that behind him. He’s Glentoran through and through as is his Dad, Jason who coached a very successful Academy team here. Charlie is a seriously talented player who can and will have a brilliant career. The backroom team here really believe in him and we know he can have a fantastically successful career in football. I’m absolutely delighted he’s joined us permanently. The rebuild continues with discussions with some other players ata very advanced stage.”

Charlie spoke to www.glentoran.com this afternoon: “I’m really looking forward to a full season with the Glens and have been enjoying getting back to fitness during pre season. As a Glenman and a professional  I will give my best for the team and am excited for the season ahead. Like the rest of the squad we want to excite fans this year and do as well as we can together.”

Welcome home Charlie.
