Glentoran kick-start their Tennent’s Irish Cup defence with a home tie to Championship 1 league leaders Ards.

The fifth round matchup will be a welcome distraction from the league for Alan Kernaghan as his side suffered a Boxing Day defeat to rivals Linfield, before ending a miserable festive period with a loss at Stangmore Park to Dungannon Swifts.

Ambrose Fogarty

Former Glentoran player of the 1950s Ambrose Fogarty has passed away aged 82.  Ambrose played 98 times for Glentoran, scoring 28 goals, before being transferred to Sunderland.  During a successful cross channel career he won 11 caps for the Republic of Ireland before taking up management in the League of Ireland.

The thoughts of everyone at Glentoran are with Ambrose's family and friends at this sad time.

A Service of Thanksgiving will be held in McQuiston Memorial Presbyterian Church (Castlereagh Road) on Thursday 7th January 2016 at 11:30am.

Chris Morrow Signs On Loan

Glentoran FC is pleased to announce the signing of Chris Morrow from Crusaders. Chris - the NI Football Writers' Player of the Year in 2012 - joins the club on loan for the rest of the season. Chris and our other new signing Chris Lavery will both be available for selection when registration is completed with the IFA. The club also confirms that Danny McKee has returned to The Oval following a successful loan spell at Ards.

Dungannon Swifts 3 - 1 Glentoran

Glentoran fell to their second defeat of the festive period as Dungannon deservedly took the points at Stangmore Park this afternoon.  Alan Kernaghan named an unchanged starting XI from the narrow Boxing Day defeat to Linfield and it was the visitors who created the first clear cut chance of the game after four minutes.  A great pass from Jonny Addis found Curtis Allen on the right who cut inside his marker and got a shot on target which was well saved with his feet by Dungannon 'keeper Andy Coleman.  However it was the Swifts who made the breakthrough soon afterwards as Paul McElroy made a

Glentoran will be looking to put behind a disappointing ‘Big Two’ Boxing Day defeat with a huge performance on Friday.

Niall Quinn and Paul Smyth were on the scoresheet for the Blues last Saturday to give David Healy his first derby win as manager.

Glens youngster Jonathan Smith pulled one back at a waterlogged Oval with his fifth of the season, but it wasn’t enough as Linfield emerged victorious to seal their fourth successive Boxing Day triumph.

Glentoran FC Homeless Appeal 2015

On Sunday 20th December, officials, players and volunteers from Glentoran FC visited several Homeless Shelters in Belfast to distribute the gifts donated by supporters.

Once again we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our fans and would like to thank you all for your donations.

Although the result on Boxing Day was not what we would have wanted, it was still very important to the legions of supporters of both Glentoran and Linfield that the match - always the top attended league match in the NIFL season - went ahead. At various stages on Boxing Day this looked like a major challenge so the Chairman and Directors of Glentoran FC would like to thank the following for their exceptional work on the day in getting the game played:
