Glentoran continue their Tennent’s Irish Cup defence as they welcome Glenavon at the Oval.

The fixture comes as a welcome distraction for the Glens as their recent league form has left Alan Kernaghan’s side lying sixth in the Danske Bank Premiership table.

The East Belfast side have lost their last four league games, including a miserable 4-0 defeat to basement club Warrenpoint Town at home.

Minute's Silence

Fri, 05/02/2016 - 22:33

There will be a minute’s silence held immediately before kick off of our Irish Cup game with Glenavon in tribute to former Derry City and Glenavon player Mark Farren who died this week. Mark – a Derry City legend and that club’s all time record goalscorer – lost his life at the tragically young age of 33 after a long illness that cut short his outstanding playing career. He was also brother in law to our former player Shaun Holmes. The club offers deepest condolences to Mark’s widow Terri Louise.

Glentoran goalkeeper Elliott Morris may have to put his 600th appearance celebrations on ice as he battles to be fit in time for tomorrow's game with Glenavon.

Since joining the Glens in 2002, Morris has established himself as a firm favourite between the posts and is regarded as one of the finest shot-stoppers in Irish League history.

Glentoran host Warrenpoint Town at the Oval tomorrow as they look to end a run of three straight league defeats.

Following consecutive setbacks at the hands of rivals Linfield and Dungannon Swifts, the East Belfast side’s latest defeat came last week as they threw away a two goal lead to lose against reigning champions Crusaders.

The Glens were also reduced to 10 men as the current league leaders fought back to claim a 4-2 win, extending their Premiership unbeaten streak between the sides at Seaview to nine.
