Ruthless Glens hit eight to return to summit

Sun, 28/09/2025 - 19:01

Glentoran Women sent out a powerful statement of intent in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership title race with a commanding 8–1 victory over Lisburn Rangers at the Blanchflower Stadium.

The defending champions, playing their first split fixture, were in no mood to slip up as Emily Wilson and Kascie Weir both claimed hat tricks to restore the Glens to the summit of the table with just two games left to play.

Glentoran’s attacking fluency was evident from the outset. Wilson broke the deadlock midway through the first half before Weir and Wilson combined to devastating effect to open up a commanding lead. By half time the contest was effectively over, with the visitors five goals to the good and brimming with confidence.

Weir’s predatory instincts brought her a third goal shortly after the restart before Lisburn grabbed a consolation through Helen Parker. The Glens, however, were relentless, with substitute Mia Moore coming off the bench to add two well taken finishes late on to cap a sparkling team performance.

The victory puts Kim Turner’s side two points clear of Cliftonville and sets up a blockbuster finale to the season. A derby clash with Linfield is next, before a potential title decider against Cliftonville on the final day of the season.
