Seconds secure Steel & Sons Last 8 place

Sat, 27/09/2025 - 21:48

An outstanding second half performance gave the Seconds a very comprehensive victory at Wilbourne Park this afternoon and very deservedly secured them a place in the quarter finals of the Toals County Antrim Shield.

The Glens opened the scoring 4 minutes before the break. A great run and cross from Cillian McCann was converted by an equally great header from Cal Weatherup. That’s how it remained at half time.

A 3 goal burst in a 4 minute spell early in the second half made the game safe. First to score was midfielder James Douglas on 54 minutes, closely followed by goals from skipper Ciaran Rogers-Duffy and one from striker Jude Johnson.

Another from Johnson with 14 minutes left secured a scoreline that did not flatter the Wee Glens in any way and was a great way to end a great performance by the young Glens against a very strong, physical Islandmagee side.

The Seconds are the only reserve team left in the cup. Draw for the quarter final will take place on Monday 29 September and the matches will be played on Saturday 18 October.
