Glens Ladies Win the Cup

Sun, 16/07/2017 - 13:58

Saturday 15th July saw Glentoran Belfast United face East Belfast Ladies in the Toals Women’s Challenge Cup Final at Seaview.

The premier league side went into the final as favourites and it was only 3 minutes before Ali McMaster broke the deadlock.

Next on the score sheet was Rachel Rogan after Caldwell played her through leaving a 1v1 with East Belfast’s goalkeeper.

Foy produced a cross into the box which made its way through to Rebecca McKenna who grabbed her first of the night making it 0-3. A Kelly Bailie free kick speciality curled into the back of the net increasing the lead to

4, however, Glentoran’s back four and McKinnon had to remain alert for East Belfast’s counter attacks. Mulholland found McMaster who took it round the opposition’s keeper just before half time making it 0-5.

After the interval McMaster was first on the score sheet yet again grabbing herself a hat trick 5 minutes into the second half.

A double substitution saw Wade and Redmond come on for McMaster and Mulholland. McKenna was first to the ball after a poor clearance making it 0-7.

Glentoran’s final substitution saw Kelly replaced by Neese-Taggart who made an immediate impact grabbing herself 2 goals and an assist setting up Rogan for her second goal of the night.

Lauren Wade was top goal scorer with the pick of the bunch being a half volley following an Eddis cross.
