Seconds continue great start to the season

Mon, 08/10/2012 - 19:43

Glentoran Seconds have made an excellent start to the season and suffered just one defeat since they got underway in August. In the IFA Reserve League they are behind Ballinamallard United II's on goal difference but have an all important game in hand. (League table HERE)

On Saturday a fine 2-nil home victory against Wellington Rec put them through to the last 8 of the Steel & Sons Cup. They had already accounted for Ballymena United Reserves and Sirocco Works in previous rounds. (Match reports from all 3 games HERE).

Their league season got off to a great start with 4 straight wins against Donegal Celtic, Glenavon, Cliftonville (last season's Reserve League winners) and Linfield. A 1-all draw with Ballinamallard United II's was followed by another win, this time against Ballymena United Reserves. Last Wednesday night the Seconds tasted defeat for the first time when they went down 3-1 at Coleraine; this despite taking an early lead. Tomorrow night they have the chance to back to the top of the table when they face Crusaders Reserves at the Oval (kick-off 7.30pm) so if you can't make it to Institute to watch the first team in action in the Irn Bru League Cup why not pop down to the Oval and give the Seconds your support.
