For almost three decades in the first half of the twentieth century, Glentoran Football Club adopted a very distinctive style of playing kit.
The three-block colours of red green and black would be worn by heroes of the east, such as Geary, Roberts, McCarthy, Hughes, Lowry, Ewing, Blanchflower and Bingham.
Most significantly though, this was the style of shirt chosen by the Glens to herald their return to the Oval in August 1949 after eight arduous years in exile.
An event made famous both in song and verse.
In May 1941 Glentoran lost everything in the aftermath of the Belfast blitz, including players records, photographs and even its very playing kit.
Worst of all, Glentoran lost the Oval, the team's home in the shadow of the shipyard gantries. Only the determination of the Glentoran family, board, players, supporters and supporters' clubs alike brought the Glens back home.
Taking to the field once more at the end of the missing years, Glentoran wore a bold and eye-catching red, green and black hooped shirt paired with white shorts.
August 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of Glentoran returning home to the Oval. In a fitting tribute to those who rebuilt the club from the ashes, brick by brick, Glentoran's home kit for the 2019/20 season will mirror the design of that famous old jersey.
Once again, having worked in close conjunction with Chis Morgan at ClubSport NI and our technical partners at Umbro, we are delighted to reveal this striking new home strip, at the beginning of another new dawn for Glentoran Football Club.
As with the 2019/20 away shirt, we have moved to incorporate sponsorship logos into the sublimation process whilst retaining the embroidered club crest. The undoubtedly 40's style button collar and imaginary in the branding, taken from the first matchday programme of Glentoran's return to the Oval, completes the look.
Due to the significance of the date of Glentoran FC "Returning Home in August 1949" the new 2019/20 home shirt goes on sale at 11am on Saturday 10th August 2019 (a date closest to our first home match 2019) at 11am in the Glentoran Superstore at the Oval.

Tuesday 13 August 4.30pm - 10pm
For supporters wishing to pre-order the 2019/20 home shirt, orders will be taken with full payment in person at the Superstore during advertised opening hours from Thursday 25th July until Thursday 8 August.
The shirt is also available to pre-order online from Thursday 25th July from 9pm, however customers should be aware that orders will not be dispatched until Monday 12th August.
