NIFL Women’s League Cup: Ballymena Utd 0 5 Glentoran

Wednesday 31st May saw Glentoran BU face Ballymena in the Quarter Finals of the NIFL Women’s League Cup. 

The away side dominated possession from the whistle creating multiple attempts at goal.  The closest opportunity in the first 20 minutes came from a curling free kick hit by Kirsty Eddis which struck the far post.  Rachel Rogan was next with an attempt on goal, only to be denied by the hands of the Ballymena goalkeeper.  The deadlock was broke on the 32nd minute with a Nadene Caldwell strike inside the box, giving Glentoran the lead.

5 minutes after the restart Glentoran doubled their lead through Rachel Rogan, who met a cross from Lauren Wade and lobbed it over the keeper.  The next goal came from Gail Redmond after linking up with Caldwell from a corner kick, placing it in the far post. Cleo Neese-Taggart replaced Rebecca McKenna after 60 minutes.  Glentoran’s fourth goal came from Makyla Mullholland as she met Foy’s delivery placing the ball away from the goalkeeper’s reach.  Nicole Adams kept alert on her line as Glentoran were once again dictating play with frustration showing in the Ballymena side.  The woodwork was struck once again by Lauren Wade, with Mullholland recreating the strike minutes later from the middle of the park doubling her tally. Wade and Rogan were replaced by Danielle Ennis and Suzanne Baxter respectively in the last  20 minutes of the game.
