Glentoran's defence of the Irish Cup ended with little more than a whimper as Alan Kernaghan's men were outclassed by Glenavon at the Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Glentoran continue their Tennent’s Irish Cup defence as they welcome Glenavon at the Oval.
The fixture comes as a welcome distraction for the Glens as their recent league form has left Alan Kernaghan’s side lying sixth in the Danske Bank Premiership table.
The East Belfast side have lost their last four league games, including a miserable 4-0 defeat to basement club Warrenpoint Town at home.
There will be a minute’s silence held immediately before kick off of our Irish Cup game with Glenavon in tribute to former Derry City and Glenavon player Mark Farren who died this week. Mark – a Derry City legend and that club’s all time record goalscorer – lost his life at the tragically young age of 33 after a long illness that cut short his outstanding playing career. He was also brother in law to our former player Shaun Holmes. The club offers deepest condolences to Mark’s widow Terri Louise.
Development Squad Coaching Appointments
The club is pleased to announce the appointment of a new management team for Glentoran Seconds.
Mark Clougherty returns to the club as Development Squad Manager. He will be joined by William Hands and John Savage as assistant coaches while Jason Cummings and goalkeeper coach William Lee remain in their current roles with the squad.
Many things have certainly changed for the better in the modern football era, such as better pitches, facilities and family atmospheres, however some things that have not exactly been helped by the new box ticking and criteria that have to be met are things that we would normally not think of such as flag poles at grounds.
Glentoran have completed the signing of Dale Patton from Linfield.
Dale, a striker, has signed initially to the end of the season.
Glentoran Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Stephen O’Flynn on a pre contract for season 2016/17. Stephen will join us from Ballinamallard United, having signed a contract to join the Mallards from Crusaders until the end of the current season.
In addition to Ballinamallard and Crusaders, Stephen also had a successful spell as centre forward with Institute and a number of clubs in the League of Ireland, most notably Derry City, Limerick and Galway United.
Due to the overnight snow today's game at Mourneview Park has been postponed. A new date for this game will be posted when known.
