Lucky 13 Glens in Northern Ireland Call

Fri, 15/09/2023 - 17:48

Six Glentoran players have been selected in Tanya Oxtoby’s first senior Northern Ireland squad. The players will face the Republic of Ireland in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Saturday 23rd September in their first UEFA Nations League game, before continuing their campaign at Seaview, Belfast against Albania on Tuesday 26th September.

Nadene Caldwell, Kerry Beattie, Chloe McCarron, Demi Vance, Emily Wilson and Joely Andrews are no strangers to the national side having all played and scored for Northern Ireland in the past.

Glentoran fans may also be interested to keep an eye on Reading striker Lauren Wade. One year on since her move from East Belfast across the water, she’s set to make her 50th Northern Ireland appearance against Albania should she feature against the Republic of Ireland.

Maeve McConaghy, Rebecca Magee, Rachel McIntyre, Kascie Weir, Megan Neill, Sarah Tweedie and goalkeeper Ellie Scott have all been called up to represent Northern Ireland at U19 level in an international friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday 24th September. With the game being held in East Belfast at the Blanchflower Stadium it’s hoped an equally strong Glentoran contingent will be supporting from the stands.

Rounding off a strong international selection window for Glentoran players, Rhianna Murphy, Kirsten Farley and Clodagh Maguire were all part of the NI u17 squad who played reigning European champions France in Gail Redmond’s first game at the helm of the u17 group. In total 16 Glentoran have been selected for international duty across the Northern Ireland Women’s u17, u19 and senior teams.
