Glentoran Football Club can confirm that defender Harry Murphy has completed a transfer to Glenavon Football Club for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old joined Glentoran from Portadown in 2022 and made 22 senior appearances during his time at The BetMcLean Oval.
He spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Glenavon, making 12 appearances for the Lurgan Blues.
A former captain of Glentoran Seconds, Murphy overcame a serious knee injury to return to first-team contention at Glentoran in October 2023.
Glentoran Manager Declan Devine said: “Harry is a fantastic young player and an outstanding character. He has a hunger to play first-team football every week and after an honest conversation over the past few days, we agreed that this was the right move at the right time in his career.
“He gave everything to Glentoran, on the pitch and behind the scenes, and he leaves with our full support. It would have been wrong to stand in his way when he deserves the opportunity to play regularly. Everyone at Glentoran wishes Harry the very best for the future.”
Speaking about his move, Harry Murphy said: “I have loved my time at Glentoran and this was not an easy decision to make. But at this stage of my career, I need to be playing regular first-team football and I believe this is the right move to continue my development.
“I want to thank everyone at Glentoran including Declan, Paul, the coaching staff, the volunteers behind the scenes and of course the fans for all the support they have given me.
“This is a special club and it has been a real privilege to wear the shirt. I have learned so much here and will always look back with pride at the memories I have made.”
Glentoran would like to thank Harry for his commitment and contribution during his time at The BetMcLean Oval and wishes him every success as he begins the next chapter of his career.
