Glentoran v Dungannon Swifts- Preview

Fri, 09/11/2012 - 17:26

On the back of Monday night's disappointing exit from the Irn-Bru Cup, Glentoran are looking to bounce back with three points in the league this Saturday against Dungannon Swifts at The Oval. The Glens have worryingly slipped out of the top half of the Danske Bank Premiership into 7th after the 1-1 draw with league leaders Cliftonville last weekend. This slip also saw arch-rivals Linfield overtake us for the first time this season. Dungannon are the visitors this weekend as we look to respond to the recent slump in form with victory tomorrow.

The team news has no new injuries to report. Colin Nixon and Calum Birney played for the Seconds in their Steel and Son's Cup victory last weekend and have both been in training this week. Jay Magee returns from suspension this week however his fitness is still in question after the injury he picked up last month. The last few weeks have been difficult with three first team central defenders all out injured but it has given the opportunity for William Garrett to come into the side, making his debut last Saturday and playing again on Monday night.

Our visitors Dunngannon Swifts have had a period of turmoil off the pitch with a number of changes to the backroom staff. On the pitch however they have been the draw specialists off the Danske Bank Premiership so far with draws in half of their league games so far. Despite proving difficult to beat, they have only recorded two wins all season and sit 9th in the league table.

Earlier in the season, Glentoran won a comfortable tie 3-1 at Stangmore Park with Andy Waterworth scoring a brace and Jay Magee scoring a penalty that day. The Glens will be hoping to return to that form of early season tomorrow and pick up a much needed 3 points.
