Euro Play Off Final Preview

Tue, 10/05/2016 - 12:04

Glentoran’s season boils down to tonight’s crucial European play-off final clash against Cliftonville at Solitude.

While a spot in Europe is up for grabs, the guaranteed 200,000 euro jackpot at stake will be a vital cash injection for either club.

The Glens booked their place in the final after edging Coleraine at The Showgrounds last Friday night.  Minutes after Neil McCafferty had an effort ruled out for offside for the hosts Calum Birney’s volley gave the East Belfast side the lead.

Glentoran begin their road towards European play-off glory with a trip to the Coleraine Showgrounds tonight.

After a disappointing season for the Glens which saw them fail to retain their Irish Cup and finish sixth in the Danske Bank Premiership, tonight’s semi-final (rescheduled kick-off at 8pm) could give the East Belfast side a lifeline.

A lucrative 200,000 euros is at stake for the play-off winners, but the Glens must first overcome Coleraine before meeting Cliftonville in the final at Solitude on Tuesday (9th May).
