George Wilson Cup Final - TONIGHT

Wed, 14/05/2014 - 07:24

Glentoran Seconds will play Ballinamallard Reserves in the final of the George Wilson Cup on Wednesday 14th May at Seaview.

Seconds manager, Spike Hill spoke to glentoran.com about the game....

Can you inform us how you reached the final?

"We came out of the group stages with a 0-0 draw against Crusaders and good wins against Ards and Warrenpoint Town which matched us with Linfield in the semi final. We ran out 1-0 winners courtest of a John McGuigan penalty. So far in the competition we haven't conceded a goal, let's hope that continues in the final."

What do you know of Ballinamallard?

"They have reached the final on merit and were last seasons league winners so I'm expecting a tough game. They tend to be an older more experienced team than most Reserve sides, but that is their choice and we have to deal with it. In this years league tussles we have won one and lost two, but each game has been tight and I expect this to be no different."

What sort of a crowd do you expect at the final?

"There was a great turnout for the semi final against the Blues. I know it wasn't a great game but semi's never are as it's about getting through. With many of the our young Reserves getting first team experience and exposure more and more people are asking about them.

I'm sure the Ducks will bring their usual noisy band, so if you're missing the football already please come down to Seaview on Wednesday, kick off is 8pm and admission is £4 / £2 concessions."

If the game is level then it's extra time and penalties to decide the outcome.
