Ricky Rea has been appointed to the position of full time Club Secretary at Glentoran FC. Ricky – a lifelong Glentoran supporter and a founder of the North Down GSC - has fulfilled the role on a part-time volunteer basis for the past six years but as the club moves in the direction of full-time football, the Board of Directors decided that a full time Secretary was a vital component of a professional club.
Chairman Stephen Henderson said of Ricky’s appointment: “The investment is enabling the club to move towards the goal of becoming a fully professional organisation. This can’t however happen on the pitch in isolation. There is a requirement to provide the back up support and structures within all levels of the club to support this evolution. One of those steps has been the identification by the investor of the need to have full time secretarial support. Ricky has worked tirelessly, efficiently and professionally as a volunteer over the last number of years within this role. His transition from volunteer, having to juggle to find the spare time that such a demanding job entails, to being able to focus solely during working hours on Glentoran, is a welcome development and is entirely enabled by the investment”
Head Coach Mick McDermott: “Having full time secretarial and administrative support at the Oval is a very necessary, important and welcome step as we upgrade all areas of the club. We are very pleased to have Ricky on board and I know that his experience and dedication will be great assets to the club.”
