Welcome to Eoghan McCawl

Glentoran is delighted to announce the signing of Eoghan McCawl.

Eoghan (21), from Annacloy in County Down, is a right sided midfielder who left Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone in May, having spent most of last season on loan at Forfar Athletic as they won promotion from Scottish Division Two.

Eoghan is a Northern Ireland international at various under age levels, having been in U21 and U19 squads with our other recent signing, Robbie McDaid.

Manager Gary Haveron said today: “Eoghan came to my attention through his friend Robbie McDaid. He and Robbie came through the Northern Ireland international ranks together and have most recently been together in U19 and U21 squads.   Eoghan had been over in Scotland doing pre-season and for one reason or another ended up coming back home. We’ve had him at training for the past couple of weeks and he impressed a lot.

Eoghan went as a scholar to Hull City and after spending 3 years there he moved up to St Johnstone under Tommy Wright (a manager I know well as I played for him at Ballymena). Tommy speaks very highly of Eoghan and has told us he’s a lad who can do very well in the Irish League.

Having spent the past 6 years in full time football he has experience and has quality I couldn't ignore.  He also ticks the boxes in terms of age, the sort of energy I want to keep in the side and he also provides me with more options as he can play wide or in the middle of the park

All in all, I'm happy with the quality we have brought in this summer. We are a very young squad and I think that's a clear signal of our intent to build for a future that is sustainable and will only get better.”

Eoghan will wear the number 28 shirt this season

The club is sure everyone will make Eoghan very welcome at the Oval.
