Welcome Alex

The club is pleased to announce the signing of Republic of Ireland Under 21 player Alex O'Hanlon.

Alex (21), a creative, attacking midfielder, has been capped at every age group with the Republic of Ireland up to U21 and spent 5 years as a professional at Liverpool FC. He took the decision to return home in the summer of 2016 to rebuild his career as he believed his prospects of first team football at Anfield were limited with players like Coutinho, Can and Henderson ahead of him. He spent the 2017 League of Ireland season with St Patrick's Athletic. Alex' ultimate goal is to eventually go back to full time football at the higher level with a realistic chance of playing football at the top level and with the experience of being at one of Europe’s most famous clubs for 5 years.

When Alex left his schoolboy club, the famous nursery club St Kevin's Boys in Dublin, he had Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Real Madrid all fighting for his signature as the hottest school boy prospect in the country at the time. Alex is delighted to sign for such a famous NI club as Glentoran FC and his goal is to hit the ground running. He can't wait to start training with his new team mates and helping Glentoran have a successful end to the season.

His international clearance is complete, so Alex is available for selection for Saturday's Irish Cup match at Ballyclare. Alex has signed initially until the end of the current season.

Welcome to Glentoran, Alex.

Further information and a full interview with Alex will be published here following Alex's first training session on Thursday evening.
