Fri, 16/09/2016 - 17:39

Glentoran Under 20s got back to winning ways following defeats to Glenavon and Dundela in the Steel and Sons with a 3-2 victory over Ards at The Oval on Wednesday.

The Glens got off to a good start keeping the ball and restricting Ards to limited chances, they took the lead midway through the half with a goal from Conal Delaney, cutting inside he struck a shot with his left foot that beat Ards keeper.

Glentoran had a number of half chances during the first 45 minutes but should have taken the lead when Noel Healy saw himself 1 on 1 with the keeper following a surging run from midfield, unfortunately for him he pulled his shot wide.

They continued to control the game but failed to take the chances they had early in the second half before Ards got themselves a penalty, Delaney committing the foul.  Keeper Rhys Clougherty saved the penalty only to see it rebound to the taker who scored to make it 1-1.

Ards managed to take the lead shortly after, a misplaced into the midfield was intercepted by an Ards player who made his way to goal before unleashing a strike from 20 yards out that gave the keeper no chance.

Glentoran equalised just after the 70 minute mark when substitute Brent Ritchie got on the end of a ball following some good play down the right hand side, his left footed shot was deflected into the net to make it 2-2.

Their winner came, Jack McLaren picking the ball up just outside the box before he struck his shot into the top left hand corner scoring his 4th goal of the season.
