Tomorrow's Gazette

Fri, 15/12/2023 - 16:00

In the last Glentoran Gazette before Christmas Warren Feeney says that, while he is pleased with the recent result against Linfield and thought we played well against a very good team last weekend, we will need to produce another top drawer performance against Newry City, a side he thought was unlucky to be knocked out of the League Cup in midweek. He is also happy to have Rhys Marshall back and is looking forward to seeing him get up to speed. In another 40-page programme which features graphic artist Beth Stafford’s cover of striker David Fisher, Matthew Brown talks to author, playwright, songwriter and former Gazette editor Sam Robinson who hints we might have a special Vienna night at the Oval. Another former editor, Philip Stevenson, traces the origins of the 1923 Committee, currently celebrating its centenary, while the Committee, publishers of the match programme, has a beef about fines imposed for spectator misconduct. Brian McClelland has been busy this week bringing us his joyous reaction to the 4-0 thumping of Linfield as well as stories on a trophy mystery and a cartoonist’s cruel dig at former goalkeeper Alan Paterson. Henry Muldrew has once more dusted off his well-thumbed passport, travelling to Hong Kong and the States to report on the Beautiful Game and we discuss the latest plan for an all-Ireland league. And, of course, Norman Ternahan and Tommy Sewell give their take on those recent games in words and pictures. The Gazette, at £4, is by the fans for the fans.
