Thank You Ricky, from Glentoran

Sun, 03/03/2024 - 22:24

There were presentations made either side of yesterday’s Clearer Water Irish Cup win at the Bet McLean Oval.

Prior to kick off, club Chairman Colin Jess made a presentation on the pitch to Ricky Rea on behalf of the club to mark his retirement after many years of loyal and important service to Glentoran.

Ricky was Club Secretary at Glentoran for the past decade and he was a great help to Glentoran during some dark and challenging times at the Oval. He also as Secretary played a vital role in the club’s transition to full time football following the new majority ownership in 2019 and in securing club licenses each season.

Before becoming Secretary, Ricky served in many roles from youth team player through to many fundraising initiatives and committees. The club is glad Ricky will remain here as what he has always been, a loyal Glenman to the core.

Following the game Winston Hughes, son of legendary Glens centre forward Sammy, received a special Glentoran shirt with Hughes 9 to mark his visit to the Bet McLean Oval. Larne man Sammy scored an incredible 297 goals in 378 appearances for the club in the 1950s. The visit was arranged by his friend Jeff Russell, another ex-Glens player from Larne and father of our current star Johnny. The shirt was presented by Johnny and current skipper Marcus Kane in the Boardroom.
