Signing News: Welcome Home Danny

Sun, 26/06/2022 - 01:19

Glentoran’s summer transfer activity has moved on further with the return to the Bet McLean Oval of Danny Purkis after six years away.

Danny (27) first joined the Glens in January 2014 from Bangor Amateurs, being given his debut by Eddie Patterson the following month in a Setanta Cup tie away to Sligo Rovers. He made an immediate impression, scoring opening goal in his home debut with a great solo effort to open the scoring in a 3-0 win over Ballymena United. In his two seasons at the club, Danny is probably best remembered for his solo opener v Linfield at the National Stadium and his dramatic and spectacular late home winner v then reigning champions Cliftonville.

Since leaving the club in May 2016, Danny has had successful spells at H&W Welders, East Belfast and Glenavon, where he last played in the Danske Bank Premiership last season.

Mick McDermott: “We are very happy to get Danny to Glentoran. He is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and is a handful for defenders every time he steps on the pitch. Danny is a player who has worked hard at his game over the past few seasons, He has matured as a player, and we know he will definitely strengthen our team. An East Belfast lad coming home!”

GlensTV will have a full interview with Danny in a few days.

Welcome Home Danny!
