Robbie voted Player of the Year

Thu, 25/04/2019 - 21:59

Robbie McDaid has been voted Glentoran 'Player of the Year' for 2018-19 by the club’s supporters. Castlereagh GSC organised the vote at Tuesday evening’s home game and the Robbie came out on top with a very impressive 50% of the vote. He will be presented with his award by Castlereagh GSC officials on the pitch before Saturday’s home match with Institute.

Robbie said on being told of his award: “I’m absolutely delighted about this. It’s such a prestigious award to get at 22 so I hope it’s the first of many for me personally and with the team in my career at Glentoran. I’d really like to thank my team mates and the coaches I’ve worked under. I know I’ve worked under a few managers in my short time here, but every one of them has been very good to me and very supportive.  I hope people think I repay that faith as although I haven’t been playing my normal role upfront for the last few months, I feel my work rate and goal ratio has held up well. I’ll do whatever I need to do to help the team when I’m asked to. I also want to thank my mum and dad who travel the length of the country from Omagh, week in and week out to watch and support me. Now I want to pay back the supporters who’ve given me this award by ending the season on a high and getting us into Europe. That’s where the Glens need to be and where our loyal supporters deserve to be.”

Conor Pepper was runner-up with three-time winner Curtis Allen third and skipper Marcus Kane Marcus Kane in fourth place.
