Raven Glenmen and Bluemen join forces for NHS

Mon, 04/05/2020 - 13:11

In an inspiring example of co-operation across the Irish League’s “Big Two”, members of the First Raven Glentoran Supporters Club joined forces with their opposite numbers at 1st Raven Linfield Supporters Club to help the Bluemen over the line with their initiative to raise funds for NHS frontline workers.

It came to the attention of the Raven Glens club that the Bluemen's initiative was £500 short of an excellent £20,000, so offered to help get them over the line. The one condition was that one of their members, Stephen McMillen (aka Trigger) undertook a five kilometre walk through East Belfast in a full Glens kit!

Trigger did the whole thing last week and at last count the Raven GSC contribution to the initiative was standing at £800! A great example of supporters working together for a cause that transcends even our intense football rivalry.

Stephen Beattie of the Raven GSC, said: "People are always talking up the bad relationships between Bluemen and Glenmen but at the Raven club we all get on well.

We were pleased to do our bit for the NHS fundraiser, and it was made even more worthwhile by seeing Stephen dressed so well on Saturday.

Sadly however, he turned down the chance to keep the kit."
